The House of Representatives’ Committee on Public Works and Highways started on Tuesday, Aug. 15, its inquiry into the defective P680-million Ungka Flyover and the delayed construction of the P560-million Aganan Flyover in Pavia, Iloilo.
“Ang mabigat na trapiko dulot ng pagsasara ng Ungka Flyover at pagkaantala na matapos ang Aganan Flyover ay may masamang epekto sa pang-araw-araw na buhay ng mga commuter at driver,” Kabataan Party-list Rep. Raoul Danniel Manuel said during the congressional inquiry.
“Nagdulot ito nga perwisyo at paghihirap sa mga residente pati na sa mga maliliit na negosyo na malapit sa flyovers,” the Ilonggo lawmaker added.
Manuel was among those who filed House Resolution No. 721 for the inquiry.
The first inquiry, held at the Batasang Pambansa in Quezon City, was headed by Surigao del Sur 1st District’s Rep. Romeo Momo, chair of the House Committee on Public Works and Highways.
It was attended by Iloilo City Rep. Jamjam Baronda, Iloilo Third District Rep. Lorenz Defensor, Fourth District Rep. Ferj Biron, and Uswag Ilonggo Party-list Rep. James “Jojo” Ang.
Also present were Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH-6) assistant region director Jose Al Fruto, Iloilo City District Engineering Office head Roy Pacanan and representatives from the central office of DPWH.
The Ungka Flyover was closed to traffic in September 2022 due to structural defects, while the construction of Aganan Flyover was stopped in December 2022.IMT
