A private company has taken over the distribution of water in the town of Janiuay, Iloilo.
CSWater Iloilo, Inc., a joint venture firm between Manila-based Citicore Summa Water Corporation (CSWC) and Janiuay Water District (JWD), was formally launched on July 29.
The joint venture deal is expected to provide safe and clean potable water to Janiuaynons 24/7.
CSWater Iloilo, under the agreement, will handle the operations and maintainance of water distribution facilities in the town for 25 years.
Meanwhile, JWD, a government-owned and controlled corporation under the supervision of the Local Water Utilities (LWUA), will be the “Contract Monitoring Unit.” Its responsibility is to “monitor the operations of CSWater Iloilo’s water system management in the area.”
The newly sealed partnership is also intended to reduce non-revenue water (NRW).
Andrew Margarico, CSWater Iloilo general manager, said they have alloted millions of pesos for the rehabilition of old facilities and the implementation of other projects and programs to improve their services.
“The rehabilitation activities in the coming months will improve the efficiency of the drinking water supply while reducing progressively water losses and shortening the period of water shortages and interruptions. At the same time, the quality of the customer service will increase. We will deploy smart metering, accessible payment centers and portable data collection,” he said.
CSWater Iloilo is also targeting to serve more households in its area of operation.
The water utility currently serves 1,731 concessionaires in 24 barangays. The town has a total of 60 villages.
Aside from Margarico, CSWater President Jose Soler, CSWater Managing Director Olovee Tan JWD General Manager Sharon Brasileno, Mayor Ben Margarico, Vice Mayor Felizardo Amigable were also present during the launch.IMT
