Preparations are underway for the first Northern Iloilo Tourism Summit next month.

Initiated by Fifth District Rep. Raul “Boboy” Tupas, the event is set on March 16 at Solina Beach Resort in Carles town.

Last week, the Technical Working Group (TWG), headed by Tupas and Department of Tourism (DOT-6) Helen J. Catalbas, held a meeting with stakeholders as part of the ongoing preparations for the summit.

Tupas said the event aims to “promote activities and programs on tourism awareness, foster tourism development and encourage private sector participation”, and to “improve and strengthen coordination between and among DOT, local government units (LGUs), Congressional Office, stakeholders, and private sector.”

Tupas is expecting to come up with a tourism development plan for northern Iloilo after the event.

The northern part of Iloilo (Fifth District) is the province’s top tourist destination. It is comprised of the towns of Barotac Viejo, Ajuy, Concepcion, Sara, San Dionisio, San Rafael, Lemery, Batad, Estancia, Balasan, and Carles.IMT
