Mayor Jerry P. Treñas has ordered the Iloilo City Police Office (ICPO) to beef up its security measures following the twin shooting incidents.
The incidents, which resulted in the death of two men, occurred on Sunday, Jan. 19, a day before the start of the Dinagyang week.
“I was so surprised and taken aback by the incidents.Dinagyang week na naton,” said Treñas.
According to the mayor, he has been assured by the ICPO that it is on top of the security situation in the city.
“May mga dignitaries kita nga maabot and I don’t want this to happen again,” said Treñas.
Thousands of locals and tourists are expected to take part in activities set in the final week (Jan.20-26) of the festival.
Treñas said he “requested” Colonel Martin Defensor Jr., ICPO head, to conduct a deeper investigation into the shooting incidents.
The two victims were identified as Alain Muller, 42, and Delfin Britanico, 37.
Muller was shot and killed by unidentified assailants along the road of Barangay Cuartero, in Jaro district at around 12:05 p.m.
The victim sustained multiple gunshot wounds in different parts of his body.
At around 12:30 p.m., Britanico was gunned down in Barangay Nabitasan, La Paz district.
According to police, Britanico was driving his motorcyle when motorcycle-riding men fired shots at him.
He sustained several gunshot wounds in his head, stomach, and neck.IMT
