The 2022 edition of the Iloilo-Guimaras Paraw Regatta Festival has been called off due to budget and time constraints.
The cancelation was confirmed by Paraw Regatta Festival Inc. chairperson Vincent Tajanlangit and Iloilo City Mayor Jerry Treñas.
This is the third time that there will be no sailboat competition along Iloilo Strait.
Tajanlangit also cited the strict implementation of COVID-19 health protocols and the upcoming national and local elections as reasons for the cancelation of this year’s staging of the festival.
Next year is the 50th anniversary of Paraw Regatta and the celebration, according Treñas, will push through.
The Iloilo-Guimaras Paraw Regatta Festival is dubbed as the oldest sailing event in Asia. It showcases a race among colorful sailboats.IMT
