The production of palay or unhusked rice in Western Visayas decreased in the second quarter of 2023.

Based on data from the Philippine Statistics Authority (PSA-6), the region produced 129,475.94 metric tons of palay from April to June.

The figure was lower by 3.82 percent or 5,142.82 metric tons compared to the total production of palay in the same period a year ago.

Of the palay output this year, 41.8% came from Capiz, 29.11% from Iloilo, 26.3% from Negros Occidental, 13.0% from Antique, and 1% from Guimaras.

The harvest areas for palay also decreased by 7.51 percent in the April-June period this year.IMT
