The Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (PAGASA) has warned of possible flooding in Iloilo and other parts of Western Visayas due to the habagat or southwest monsoon.

The state weather bureau issued on Saturday, July 30, general flood advisories in Iloilo, Antique, Capiz, Aklan, Negros Occidental, and Guimars.

Enhanced by Tropical Depression Ester and Tropical Storm Songda, the habagat “will continue to bring light to moderate with at times heavy rains over several provinces in the western sections of Central and Southern Luzon, including Metro Manila, and Visayas.”

Ester, based on the June 30 weather bulletin, “was accelerating while moving westward over the Philippine Sea east of extreme northern Luzon.”

The tropical depression was last spotted 550 kilometers east of Itbayat town in Batanes, packing maximum sustained winds of 45 kilometers per hour (kph) and gusts of up to 55 kph.

Songda, on the other hand, was last spotted outside the Philippine area of responsibility (PAR).IMT
