The haze from forest fires in Indonesia has reached Iloilo and other parts of Western Visayas, according to the Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (PAGASA).

The state weather bureau said the haze is “pushed” by the southwest monsoon or “habagat” to Iloilo, Guimaras, Antique and Negros Occidental.

The four areas are currently under alert status.

Based on the latest haze bulletin issued by PAGASA, the quality of air in Iloilo City and Bacolod City is “moderate.”

“This is still acceptable but unhealthy for sensitive people,” PAGASA said.

It advised the public “to stay indoors and keep windows and doors closed.”

“Wear mask or eye goggles when going outside due to it’s ill effects like having a cough, asthma, or other health problems that can affect yourself. Do not jog or run outside as the body ingests more pollutants when active.”

The haze is also affecting Palawan and several other areas in the Visayas and Mindanao.IMT
