Ilonggos will continue experiencing the cold weather up to the end of February, according to the Philippine Atmospheric Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (PAGASA).
Raffy Tapales of PAGASA-Iloilo said the cold weather being felt in Iloilo and the rest of the Western Visayas region is due to the northeast monsoon or “amihan”.
The temperature in Iloilo City is expected to drop to 17 degrees Celsius within the January to February period.
Tapales said the lowest temperature recorded so far in the city since the “amihan” season started in October last year was at 22.5 degrees Celsius.
January and February are generally the coldest months in the Philippines as this is the period when the northeast monsoon reaches its peak.
PAGASA said warmer days will start in March as the southwest monsoon or “habagat” takes over.IMT
