The Overseas Workers Welfare Administration (OWWA-6) has so far spent about P92 million for the repatriation of overseas Filipino workers (OFWs) from Manila to Western Visayas.

OWWA-6 Regional Director Rizza Joy Moldes said the bulk or P77 million of the amount released went to hotel accomodation.

The agency also shouldered the transportation (P10 milllion) and food (P5 million) expenses of the repatriated OFWs.

From March to September 5 this year, OWWA-6 assisted a total of 26,044 returning OFWs. 

Of the figure, 9,262 were residents of Iloilo province, 4,502 were from Negros Occidental, 2,709 from Iloilo City, 2,502 from Capiz, 2,487 from Bacolod City, 1,958 from Aklan, 1,841 from Antique, and 783 from Guimaras.

As of Sept. 5, the Department of Health (DOH-6) recorded 1,634 cases of the coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) involving OFWs and locally stranded individuals (LSIs).

The number includes 1,392 recoveries, 2 deaths, and 240 active cases.IMT
