At least P250 million will be needed to repair the defective flyover built by the Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH) between Iloilo City and the town of Pavia in Iloilo province.

The amount is based on estimates by Abinales Associates Engineers + Consultant, the third-party consultancy firm hired by DPWH to conduct a geotechnical investigation on the “sinking” flyover.

The P680-million flyover has been closed to traffic since September 2022 due to the vertical displacement in piers 4, 5, and 6 of the structure.

Engineer Adam Abinales of the third-party consultancy firm presented their findings during the Infrastructure Development Committee meeting of the Regional Development Council (RDC-6) in the city on Monday, May 15.

One of their recommendations is the placement of four additional bored piles to the three piers, which sank by more than one foot.

Present during the meeting were, among others, City Mayor Jerry Treñas, Pavia Mayor Luigi Gorriceta, and Governor Arthur Defensor Jr.

DPWH paid more than P13 million to the third-party consultancy firm for the geotechnical investiagtion from March to May.

According to DPWH Undersecretary Roberto Bernardo, the repair will possibly start by early 2024 and be completed by the fourth quarter of the year.IMT
