Commuters bound for the northern part of the province are now assured of a faster travel time with the opening of the newly completed by-pass road in Barotac Nuevo, Iloilo.
The Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH) on Friday, Aug. 6, announced the completion of the P136.294 million 1.75-kilometer road project in Barangay Tabucan.
“This (bypass) road will decongest traffic in Barotac Nuevo town proper, hence, would facilitate faster and a more comfortable travel to various destinations in northern Iloilo and neighboring provinces of Capiz and Aklan,” DPWH regional director Lea Delfinado said in a statement.
The new road will serve as an alternate route to approximately 2,500 daily motorists going to and from northern Iloilo who used to pass through Barotac Nuevo.
The project that started in July 2017 has an initial fund of PHP116.698 million under the DPWH’s regular infrastructure program.
It covered the opening of the four-lane 1.75 kilometers road with a width of 6.70 meters on both side and was completed in November 2019.
Another P19.598 million was infused in 2020 from the regular infrastructure program and implemented by the department’s 2nd District Engineering Office.
The project that was completed in May this year covered the concreting of the four-lane Portland Cement Concrete Pavement and the construction of slope protection structures.Perla Lena/PNA
