More than three thousand families in Iloilo City have been affected by floods due to heavy rains brought by the combined effects of the southwest monsoon or habagat and Typhoon Goring since Monday, Aug. 28.
According to the City Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Office (CDRRMO), a total of 3,220 families or 12,050 individuals are taking shelter in evacuation centers as of 3 p.m. on Tuesday, Aug. 29.
The affected families are from 38 barangays in the city’s five districts. Majority or 1,804 of them are from Jaro, 702 from Mandurriao, 521 from Arevalo, 187 from La Paz, and 6 from Molo.
So far, the City Social Welfare and Development Office (CSWDO) has distributed 2,205 food packs to the affected families while the City Health Office (CHO) has provided Doxycycline, an antibiotic drug, to 1,826 individuals.
Meanwhile, the number of barangays hit by floods has risen to 86. Broken down, 20 are in Jaro, 16 in Mandurriao, 12 in Arevalo, 10 each in Molo and La Paz, and 5 in Lapuz.IMT
