A total of 267,278 tourists visited Boracay Island in Malay, Aklan in the first quarter of 2022, data from the Municipal Tourism Office showed.
In the first month of the year, Boracay accommodated 35,799 tourists. The number went up to 80,882 in February and further increased to 150,597 in March.
Majority or 262,334 of the tourist arrivals were domestic travelers, 2,967 were foreign nationals, and 1,977 were overseas Filipino workers (OFW).
Tourists from the National Capital Region (NCR), Western Visayas and CALABARZON accounted for most of the local tourists in the first quarter.
Meanwhile, bulk of the international travelers came from the United States, United Kingdom, Germany and Canada.
Malay Chief Tourism Operations Officer Felix Delos Santos said the growing number of tourists is an indication that Boracay’s tourism industry is beginning to pick up.
