More than 1,300 sari-sari store owners in Western Visayas who were affected by the imposition of price control on rice have so far received one-time cash grants.
The Department of Social Welfare and Development (DSWD) started releasing cash assistance to eligible sari-sari stores on Sept. 28.
Under the agency’s Sustainable Livelihood Program (SLP), sari-sari stores are entitled to claim P15,000 each, provided that they comply with the mandated price caps.
Last month, President Ferdinand ‘Bongbong’ Marcos Jr. issued an executive order (EO) mandating a nationwide price control on rice amid the “alarming” increase in its retail prices.
Based on the EO, the price ceiling for regular milled rice is P41 per kilo and P45 a kilo for well-milled rice.IMT
