Western Visayas accommodated more than a million tourists in the first half of 2022, according to the Department of Tourism (DOT-6).

From January to June, DOT-6 recorded a total of 1,020,313 local and foreign tourists or a daily average of 5,500.

The latest figure was higher by 125 percent compared to the tourist arrivals logged in the same period a year ago.

The province of Aklan where the world-famous Borocay Island is located attracted 852,289 visitors, accounting for majority of the total number.

The cities of Bacolod and Iloilo ranked second and third, respectively, in terms of tourist arrivals.

DOT-6 Regional Director Cristine Mansinares attributed the increase to the easement of travel restrictions.IMT
