Oton’s COVID-19 vaccination rate highest in Iloilo

The town of Oton has the highest number of individuals who have been fully vaccinated against the coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) in the whole province of Iloilo.

Pototan came in second with 23,425 fully vaccinated individuals while 30,895 received their first dose.

Passi City ranked third with 19,232 fully vaccinated individuals while 28,401 got their first dose.

All in all, the province registered 496,434 fully vaccinated individuals while 729,195 were inoculated with the first dose.

According to PHO’s Dr. Maria Colmenares-Quiñon, the number of fully vaccinated accounted for 34 percent of the 70 percent target population while those who received the first dose represented more than 50 percent of the target.

“With this development, we can say nga nakaminus na kita sang mga individuals nga malatnan sang COVID-19. There are municipalities nga nakasurpass naman sila sang 70 percent out of 70 percent target population,” Quiñon in an interview on IMT Conversations.

To expedite the inoculation drive, the provincial government will deploy 381 more vaccination teams and 1,143 healthcare workers, and set up 172 new vaccination sites.

Last week, the PHO rolled out the the vaccination for minors aged 12 to 17 years. It was officially launched at the Aleosan District Hospital in Alimodian.

When asked about booster shots, Quiñon said: “We have vaccines already [to be used as a third dose]. They can visit their rural health offices or centers to avail them.”

“But they need to know nga makabooster kalang after six months of your second dose. Ang Janssen naman nga one dose lang, it should be six months after man,” she explained.

According to Quiñon, at least 1.45 million people in Iloilo have to be vaccinated against COVID-19 to reach herd immunity.
