Punong Barangay Veronica Gamuyao Basco Ortiz of La Paz has been elected as the new president of the Liga ng mga Barangay in the town of Nueva Valencia, Guimaras.

“This is a new and big responsibility sa akon part nga dapat hatagan ko sang dako nga pagtamod in order to help [barangays in the town,” Ortiz said in an interview with IMT NEWS.

Ortiz also gained a seat as an ex-officio member of the Sangguniang Bayan (SB) of Nueva Valencia.

She vowed to be the voice of the people in the municipal council.

“Kung ano ang inyo mga problema and I will work together with my fellow punong barangays to create programs nga dako ang mabulig kag may impact sa mga pumuluyo ilabi na gid sa mga pigado,” Ortiz said.

“And also I will work with our municipal officials para mas mapatin-ad pagid naton ang aton banwa,” she added.

Ortiz said she will “strengthen” the implementation of programs at the barangay level.

“Halimbawa ang mga programa sa environmental protection, health, agri-tourism, education and youth,” she explained.

“And also with the help of my fellow punong barangays, we will design a program that will strengthen community tax collection and real property tax collection sa tagsa namun ka barangay,” Ortiz added.

Moreover, the Liga ng mga Barangay president wants to enhance the knowledge and competency of barangay officials in planning and management.

Also part of her plans is the conduct of mandatory trainings and seminars for appointed officials, like barangay treasures and secretaries, to harness their skills and productivity in performing their functions.IMT
