Some 100 families lost their homes in a fire that engulfed a residential area in Barangay Ortiz, Iloilo City early Friday morning, May 15.
Fire Chief Inspector Melanie Habawel of the Iloilo City Fire Station said 76 houses were totally razed while 12 others were partially damaged.
Based on initial investigation, the fire, which broke out at around 2 a.m., began from a house owned by a certain Viginia Galon.
Habawel said the blaze was most likely electrical in nature.
Fire out was declared at around 3:55 a.m.
Property damage was estimated at P1.17 million.
The displaced families, composed of about 300 individuals, are currently staying at the University of Iloilo (UI) Phinma in City proper.IMT
