The Iloilo City Council unanimously approved on Tuesday, Jan. 18, an ordinance that seeks to regulate the movement of residents who are not fully vaccinated against COVID-19.

Authored by Councilor Romel Duron, the measure aims to slow the spread of the coronavirus, and to protect unvaccinated individuals.

Under the ordinance, the mobility restriction on those who are not yet vaccinated only takes effect while Alert Level 3 or higher classification is implemented in the city and “in times of emergencies.”

“Kun Alert Level 2, i-announce naman na ni Mayor [Jerry Treñas], balewala na na ang aton ordinansa. As much as possible i-slow down naton ang transmission kag proteksyunan naton ang unvaccinated,” said Duron in an interview over radio station Aksyon Radyo-Iloilo.

The councilor noted that of the 444 COVID-19 deaths in the city, 386 were unvaccinated.

Specifically, the ordinance prohibits unvaccinated individuals from going outside their residences.

They are also barred from indoor and outdoor dining at restaurants and other food establishments, and from leisure or social trips to malls, hotels, sports and other similar facilities.

Those found violating the ordinance will be subject to fines ranging from P500 to P3,000 or community service.IMT
