The highly contagious Omicron variant of the coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) claimed four lives in Iloilo City.

The four deaths were among the 113 total cases of Omicron recorded in the city from January to March 12 this year, data from the City Epidemiology and Surveillance Unit (CESU) showed.

Fourty-three or 30 percent of the total cases were healthcare workers (HCW) while the 70 or 62 percent were non-HCW.

Sixty or 53 percent of the total cases were influenza-like illness, 50 or 44 percent were asymptomatic, 2 were severe acute respiratory infection and one was for verification.

Ninety-percent or 107 of the total cases were classified as local cases, four or 3 percent were returning overseas Filipinos (ROFs), one was locally stranded individual and another one was for verification.

From March 1 to 15, Iloilo City logged a total of 173 COVID-19 cases with an average of 12 cases per day.

The figure was 87.31 percent lower compared to 1, 363 cases recorded in the same period last month.IMT
