The observance of this year’s Holy Week or Semana Santa in Iloilo City was “generally peaceful.”
Iloilo City Police Office (ICPO) spokesperson Police Major Shella Mae Sangrines said no major untoward incidents happened from April 10 to 17.
The ICPO’s “well-planned deployment [of personnel] and strong collaboration with [the city government], church authorities, other law enforcement agencies, force multipliers, and volunteer groups” greatly helped in ensuring the public’s safety.
Police Assistanace Desks (PADS) were established in churches, seaports and terminals in the city “to easily respond when a problem arises.”
The ICPO also conducted a “recorida” and distributed flyers to give the public safety and security tips against lawless elements.
Holy Week is considered to be a solemn time for Catholics to reflect on the passion, death, and resurrection of Jesus Christ.IMT
