Nurse is WV’s latest COVID-19 patient; infected health workers now at 11

The new coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) patient in Western Visayas is a nurse, according to the Department of Health (DOH-6).

The DOH-6 reported one additional case of COVID-19 in the region on Wednesday, May 20.

The latest case involves a 32-year-old male from Roxas City in Capiz. He is the 105th coronavirus-positive patient in the region.

Dr. Julia Villanueva, DOH-6 assistant regional director, said the asymptomatic patient is under home quarantine.

The patient, according to Villanueva, had no exposure to a known COVID-19 patient.

There are now 11 health workers who tested positive for the disease in Western Visayas. Five of them are doctors while others are nurses (3), radiologic technologist (1), emergency responder (1) and Barangay Nutrition Scholar peronnel (1).

The infected health workers are from Iloilo City (7), Iloilo province (2), Aklan (1) and Capiz (1).

Of more than 30 thousand health workers in the region, only 1,182 have so far undergone COVID-19 testing.IMT
