A chess player from Nueva Valencia, Guimaras snatched the title of the just-concluded online chess tournament hosted by Guimaras’ Players’ Center Sports Academy over the weekend.
Joshua Gacho, a native of Brgy. Cabalagnan, won the championship title after beating players in the island province.
This was the second chess online tourney hosted by the group led by its founder and West Visayas State University (WVSU) Sports Director Dr. Richard Gabayoyo.
Gacho outsmarted Jenre Angelo Villanueva Fabay from Tagoon, Salvacion Buenavista, Guimaras who bagged the second spot and Rachel Jan Duran from San Miguel, Jordan Guimaras who placed third.
“The event was sound and successful event due to positive feedback from chess players and parents. That’s why we have to continue our advocacy in sports. This was just the many events online. We are planning for more sports tournaments in the future. We want them to feel better with games,” he added.
Despite the pandemic, Guimaras local sports men try to mount games online to entertain the people. Gabayoyo, in addition, said they will possibly hold an online freestyle basketball next month.IMT
