With less than two months before the filing of certificates of candidacy (COCs) for the 2022 elections, it is still unknown who will run for vice governor of Iloilo province.
In an interview on IMT Conversations, Iloilo Third District Representative Lorenz “Nonoy” Defensor, said he has no idea yet who are likely to seek the second highest post in the province.
According to the congressman, he doesn’t want to speculate about the possible running mate of his older brother, incumbent Governor Arthur “Toto” Defensor Jr., who is seeking reelection next year.
Meanwhile, no one has so far expressed intention to run against Toto Defensor.
Congressman Defensor said there are already talks between Toto Defensor and former congressman Ferjenel Biron.
“Gov. Toto informed me nga naka-istoryahanay naman sila ni (former) congressman Biron. I don’t see conflict sa pulitika for 2022 between the Birons and Defensors,” he said.
Incumbent Vice Governor Christine “Tingting” Garin was not mentioned by Congressman Defensor.
The younger Defensor will seek reelection. He said he is prepared for whoever the opponent is.
He disclosed that almost all congressmen in the province, based on his conversations with them, have signified their intentions to run for another term in Congress.
“I don’t see any major changes sa line up sang mga congressman in terms of their respective districts,” Congressman Defensor said.IMT
