Mayor Jerry Treñas denied that there were enhanced community quarantine (ECQ) protocols violated when he allowed the entry of a 51-year-old woman from Metro Manila.
“We will never allow any protocol not to be followed. We will always make sure nga ginasunod ang tanan nga protocols agud nga ang aton syudad mangin safe gihapon,” he said.
The woman tested positive for the coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19). She is the 2nd confirmed case in La Paz district and the 7th case in the whole city.
Based on a bulletin issued by the Department of Health (DOH-6), the latest patient in the city, who is asymptomatic or have no symptoms of COVID-19, is currently under home quarantine.
In an interview over Bombo Radyo-Iloilo, Treñas divulged that the patient is the daughter of City Legal Officer Atty. Edgar Gil.
According to the mayor, the patient arrived in Iloilo “over the weekend via a private chopper.”
“At first, together with the COVID-19 task force we did not agree, but when we knew that we needed RCA extraction kits we asked the person if she can volunteer to carry the extraction kits needed in the laboratory of WVMC (Western Visayas Medical Center), since a charter flight will cost us so much, so together with the COVID-19 Taskforce, we agreed,” she said.
“Upon arrival at the airport, we did a rapid test. The patient was immediately isolated, followed by a PCR test. Rest assured that this person followed protocols upon arrival, in strict home quarantine, and was not exposed to other people,” Treñas added.
The mayor said “allegations made on social media platforms are completely false in every respect.”
“However, this incident has taught us to be more vigilant, as some of our personnel carrying essential goods and equipment may be infected by the virus,” Treñas stressed.
The total number of cases in the city includes one death and one recovery.IMT
