Woodpushers from Western Visayas maintained their menacing form in the ongoing Professional Chess Association of the Philippines (PCAP) Season 1 as they topped the Southern Division.
Negros Kingsmen pulled off a stunner as they recorded two wins. An upset over San Juan Predators, 11-10 and a 13.5-7.5 victory over Rizal Batch Towers. They take the solo first place in the Southern Division with 18-3 win-loss record.
The Negrense settled for 7-7 draw with Predators in the Rapid event with only Arena Grand Master (AGM) Rowelyn Joy Acedo, International Master (IM) Joel Pimentel, and Nayk Segismar securing a win. National Master (NM) Rolzon Roullo settled for a draw. But they managed to bounce back in the Blitz event with 4-3 standing, beating San Juan with Bacolodnon Pimentel, Acedo, Roullo and Randy Segarra securing victories.
After settling for 3.5-3.5 draw with Rizal in the Blitz event, Negros easily ruled in the Rapid event, 10-4, on wins by Acedo, Pimentel, Segimar, and FIDE Master (FM) Rosendo Bandal Jr. and draws from Segarra and International Master Nelson Mariano III.
Meanwhile, Iloilo Kisela Knights ranks second place with a 17-4 slate following its 15-6 victory over Olongapo Rainbow Team 7 and 11.5-9.5 defeat to Manila Indios Bravos.
The team’s assistant manager, Hubert Canto, said they have put their defeat against Manila on protest due to a violation committed by one of the Indios.IMT
