Plaridel Nava is the lone opposition candidate who secured a seat in the Iloilo City Council.

The newly proclaimed councilor was number 12 with 101,105 votes, based on COMELEC’s 100 percent of election returns.

“Like in the past, I will reprise my role as your fiscalizer and defender in the Council. In short, I will be your ‘bantay sang banwa’. I will be more vigilant in the fight against corruption, illegal drugs and abuses in government,” Nava said in a Facebook post.

“This is non negotiable. There will be no compromises,” he stressed.

Nava said he is willing to “work hand and hand with the administration if such will benefit the people and will promote general welfare.”

“As long as the programs and projects are not tainted with irregularities, I will give my full and unequivocal support. We will call the relationship as ‘critical collaboration,” he added.

The councilor-elect vowed to focus on good governance and genuine public service.

“There will be no bickering and exchanges of unpleasant issues The next three years would be short a time and therefore we should maximize the period on how to improve the lives of the poor and the needy, provide accessible health services, and afford free public tertiary education,” he said.

Meanwhile, Nava expressed his appreciation to all his supporters.

“The support is overwhelming. It is heartwarming. It is phenomenal. Thus, I am overjoyed,” he said.

“To repay your kindness, your unwavering trust and your precious mandate, I hereby re-affirm and reiterate my sworn commitment to continue working for the betterment of our city,” Nava added.

After finishing his three terms as councilor in 2019, Nava ran for vice mayor but lost Ganzon.IMT
