Guimaras Governor JC Rahman Nava is bent on pushing the limits of the island province’s agriculture industry in a bid to protect and help farmers who suffer from high production costs and ensure food security and sustainability.
In a conversation with IMT News, Nava said he already instructed Provincial Office for Agricultural Services (POAS) head Alvin Nava to look for a land that will be converted into a small and medium agriculture industry park where farmers can avail of production, technical and services support.
This area, according to the governor, will eventually become an economic and linkage enterprise.
Nava said he wanted to re-establish the communal feed mill that he started when he first served as governor of the province from 1998 to 2007, so that the livestock and poultry raisers in the province can have access to a much lower cost of production of feeds.
Last week, the Philippine Carabao Center (PCC) led the groundbreaking of a P10-million dairy processing center or Dairy Box in Guimaras, which engaged several farmers to produce carabao milk for processing of different milk-based products.
Nava vowed during the campaign period that aside from tourism, he would also prioritize the province’s agriculture industry.IMT
