Miagao jins Angela Joy Marie Bermejo and Jhed Anthony Morata, both gold medalists in Kyorugi.
Taekwondo athletes from Iloilo impressed the crowd in the just-concluded 2019 National Inter-school Taekwondo Championships after winning medals at Ayala Malls Manila Bay in Pasay City.
The squad from the Iloilo Mark V. Pinggol (MVP) Taekwondo gym took home 25 medals in the competition which featured Poomsae and Kyorugi events.
In Poomsae, Enzo Lucio Cape led the team after winning gold in individual and bronze in the team. Shanen Anica Feranco also won gold in individual, while Andria Margaret Palabrica got silver in individual after teaming up with Elisha Meila Paradero, Justin Adrian Apura, Viene Marie Dulaca and Kate Sheevanie Santocildes. Geon Ivan Dulaca got bronze in team.
In the Kyurogi events, Palabrica, Samantha Gayle Go, Akimeh Demavivas, Christian Pudadera, Angela Joy Marie Bermejo, Maria Dorothea Anne Aquino, Santocildes, Niña Pearl Acosta, and Anne Francheska Cordova all earned gold medals, while Cape got silver, and Jared Darien Bernadas, Katrina Mamaril, and Jannah Ysabel Velez all got bronze.
“Im very grateful for achieving this success. After all, the hardwork and sacrifices I have made and the experiences I gained are worth it. I’m very thankful to everybody especially to God and to my late Grandmother who always guides and protects us no matter what,” said Bermejo.
“And i would also like to express my gratitude to my coaches, my teammates and my parents,” she added.
Miagao pride Jhed Anthony Morata also clinched gold in Kyurogi, while Mickael Wynn Cerbo, Gabriel Shernon Galupar, and Josh Karl Macahilig got silver.
Raphael Lloyd Pico had bronze, while Ronald Kyle Pico, Quinn Jimenez, and Senddrick Valencia were quarterfinalists.
“This victory is overwhelming especially that we are fresh from winning in Thailand tournament. All the kind are playing their best in the game,” shared MVP Iloilo coach Denmark Pinggol.
During the awarding ceremony, Ateneo de Iloilo (ADI) was crowned champions in the elementary girls while St. Robert’s International Academy took home the first runner-up honors.
Moreover, jins of the Calinog Taekwondo Association (CTA) also wowed the crowd after a stunning performance.
Out of the seven competitors from Calinog, five won medals in the two-day competition. Karl Ziovhon Batulayan received the silver medal, while rookies Prince JM Lucero got silver in the Cadet boys novice, Trishley Anne Flores got silver in the Grade school novice, and Gregorio Penalosa also got silver in the Grade school novice.
Joeline Mae Franco, who joined in the 2017 Nationals, bounced back and ranked second in the Grade school girls novice category. The Louis Paul Nobleza-trained team also hopes to return next year with more players to compete.

Silver medalists included Aryan Nonis, Exiovince Albor and Almar Diasnes and bronze from Paolo Gonzalez, Crizzel Ahmed, Lansil Brotarlo, Ma. Krizzel Balofiños, Jan Gancero, Franchesca May Paredes, and Ryza Orocio.
Silver medals in Team Poomsae were garnered by Frantilla, Gancero, Balofiños, Airon Aguana, Mariel Angela Siscar, and Kristi Marie Siscar, while bronze medal winner was Gonzales.
In Kyorugi, Brotarlo and Kyle Chin clinched a gold medal each, while Frantilla, Janus Miguel Tacsagon, Franz Angelo Fernandez, Beatriz Dacpano, Ashton James Alvarez, Liam Legayada, Mariel Siscar, Kristi Siscar and Diana Dello brought home the silver medals.
Gonzales, Balofinos, Albor, Justine Diasnes, Elijah Seth Nisola, Franchesca May Paredes, Rufino Antonio Barrato, and John Andrew Jabao finished with bronze medals, apiece.IMT
