MORE Power will set up a system of electric buses (e-buses) in Iloilo City as a contribution to the local government’s efforts in promoting environment-friendly transportation.
The city’s lone power distributor is set to bring in at least 10 electricity-powered buses this year. Each unit can carry 20 passengers and move up to 100 kilometers on a single charge.
“Since we are in the electric distribution business, we thought of bringing this in,” said MORE Power president Roel Castro.
The fully air-conditioned buses, according to Castro, are eco-friendly as they do not emit smoke and create noise pollution.
Charing stations will be installed in strategic areas in the city.
MORE Power is planning to partner with transport cooperatives in the city for the adoption of e-buses in their fleet.
“Eventually, we want this promoted and that the transport coops will really get into this. This is part of our corporate social responsibility to really introduce a very important sustainable initiative here in the city,” said Castro.IMT
