The Metro Iloilo-Guimaras Economic Development Council (MIGEDC) is seeing more economic activities spurring with the loosening of COVID-19 restrictions.
Velma Jane Lao, MIGEDC executive director, believes that it is high time to resume more economic activities to revive the economy hit hard by the COVID-19 pandemic.
Currently, Iloilo City and Guimaras are under Alert Leve 1, the least restrictive among the five-tier alert level system.
Iloilo province, meanwhile, is under Alert Level 2.
Lao said they are open to the idea of opening the council’s doors to other municipalities in the province. Dumangas and Zarraga have long signified to join.
MIGEDC is chaired by City Mayor Jerry P. Treñas with mayors of Pavia, Oton, San Miguel, Sta.Barbara, Cabatuan, and Leganes, and Guimaras governor as members.
Created by virtue of Executive Order 559 signed by President Gloria Macapagal Arroyo on August 28, 2006, the council is tasked to “formulate, coordinate and monitor programs, projects and activities for the acceleration of the economic growth” of the areas covered in support of the Mega-Region Economic Development Strategy of the national government.IMT
