Robbers seized at least P1.5 million in cash from a branch of Western Union in the town of Calinog, Iloilo on Saturday morning, July 10.
In an interview over radio station Bombo Radyo-Iloilo, Calinog police station chief Police Captain Dadjie Delima said the cash was taken from the vault of the money remittance firm.
The branch in Barangay Poblacion Centro is just a few meters away from the town’s police station.
Based on their initial investigation, Delima said only one armed man entered the remittance outlet while his companion stayed outside with their getaway motorcycle.
The robber, who was wearing a face mask, white t-shirt and maong pants, appeared minutes after the establishment opened at around 8 a.m.
According to Delima, the suspect pulled out his gun and pointed it at Gladys Almerante Castolero, the lone employee inside the remittance outlet.
The police chief said the employee was still in shock and could not give detailed account of what happened.
The establishment had no security guard when the robbery incident took place.
Thorough investigation and hot pursuit operations against the robbers are ongoing.IMT
