Patients confined at the Intensive Care Unit (ICU) of Roxas Memorial Provincial Hospital (RMPH) died not because of the failure of generator set to supply power but due to the delayed backup power, according to Provincial Administrator Edwin Monares .
Four patients admitted at the ICU reportedly when the hospital experienced brownout during the onslaught of Typhoon Ursula on Dec. 25, 2029.
According to Monares, the backup power supply was delayed bacause the operator was not around.
The four patients, he said, were already “toxic” before the typhoon struck Capiz and other areas on Panay Island.
Monares claimed that there are some lapses on the part of the hospital management.
On the other hand, Board Member Matt Hachela said that they will further investigate the incident that made the government hospital controversial.
The entire province of Capiz is currently under a state of calamity due to the effects of the typhoon.IMT
