Starting today, Nov. 28, modern jeepneys belonging to the Iloilo City Alliance of Operators and Drivers Transport Cooperative (ICAODTC) will operate in the metropolis.
Rizal Alido, board secretary of ICAODTC, said the initial seven units will ply the route from the Iloilo Terminal and General Services, Inc. (ITGSI) terminal in Barangay Ungka, Jaro district to the City Proper via Central Philippine University (CPU).
The minimum fare is P10.20 for the first four kilometers and P1.20 for every succeeding kilometer.
“The rate was by set the LTFRB (Land Transportation Franchising and Regulatory Board),” Alido said.
Each air-conditioned unit has a 25-passenger seating capacity.
ICAODTC’s modern jeepneys were launched last May. The transport cooperative said 12 units were supposed to be in operation within the month but did not push through.
The delay, according to Alido, was due to the slow completion of the transport cooperative’s garage for its units and the transfer to the cooperative of the certificates of registration (CR) and official receipts (OR) of their old jeepney units required by the LTFRB.
The LTFRB approved 28 units to operate the “Ungka-ITGSI-Iloilo City via CPU” route.
Alido said the remaining units were still being installed with stickers.
ICAODTC is the first transport cooperative approved by the Department of Transportation’s (DOTr) Office of Transportation Cooperatives and registered with the Cooperative Development Authority.
Alido said the LTFRB allowed four routes for their 108 modern jeepneys. Each unit costs more than P2 million.
The three other routes are Villa Baybay, Ungka-ITGSI via Diversion, and Jaro Plaza-Manduriao.IMT
