From MGCQ (modified general community quarantine) – the lowest form of lockdown – Iloilo City is now under MECQ (modified enhanced community quarantine).
Presidential Spokesperson Harry Roque announced on Thursday night, Sept. 24, that Mayor Jerry Treñas’ request to upgrade the city’s quarantine status was approved by the Inter-Agency Task Force on Emerging Infectious Diseases (IATF-EID).
“This is to inform that Iloilo City has been placed under modified enhanced community quarantine effective September 25, 2020 until October 9, 2020,” he said.
According to Treñas, the decision to shift the status of the city to MECQ was based on the recommendation of the COVID-19 Team.
“The cases in the city continue to shoot up and we need your cooperation to help eliminate the virus. We need to act fast to protect the lives of the Ilonggos,” he said.
The city, based on the Sept. 24 bulletin released by the Department of Health (DOH-6), logged 2,037 indigenous or local cases of COVID-19, including 1,090 recoveries and 52 deaths.
On Thursday afternoon, Treñas issued an executive order imposing stricter lockdown measures in the city.IMT
