Starting next year, the Iloilo City Government will no longer support the implementation of a signal shutdown during the celebration of the Dinagyang Festival.

On Monday, Jan. 23, Mayor Jerry Treñas expressed dismay over the shutdown of communication network signals, which affected the entire city and its neighboring towns.

“Except for the signal jamming, the celebration of Dinagyang 2023 was a great success. I will no longer endorse the request of the PNP for signal jamming next year,” he said.

“I take full and complete responsibility for the same. It did not help in any way,” the mayor added.

The temporary shutdown of telecommunication signals supposed to cover only selected areas in the city for two days (Jan. 21 and 22).

In response, Brigadier General Leo Francisco, Police Regional Office (PRO-6) director, said

that they would work in what the city government would see fit.

“That is the mayor’s perception. If he will not endorse the request of signal interruption in the future, the public safety sectors has to adjust thier security plans.”IMT
