President Ferdinand “Bongbong” Marcos Jr. on Tuesday commended the Gilas Pilipinas team for defeating Saudi Arabia at the FIBA World Cup Qualifiers.

Marcos, who was among the crowd who cheered for the team Monday night, Aug. 29, took to Twitter to congratulate Gilas for its performance at the Mall of Asia Arena in Pasay City.

“Binabati natin ang Gilas Pilipinas sa kanilang panalo laban sa koponan ng Saudi Arabia sa naganap na FIBA World Cup Asian Qualifiers Game kagabi (We are congratulating Gilas Pilipinas for their victory against Saudi Arabia in the FIBA World Cup Asian Qualifiers Game last night),” Marcos said.

He expressed confidence that the team would continue to bring pride and honor to the country.

“Kumpiyansa tayo na gagawin nila ang lahat ng kanilang makakaya para makapagdala ng karangalan sa bansa (We are confident that they will do everything to bring pride to the country),” Marcos said.

Gilas scored an 84-46 win at home against Saudi Arabia.

Marcos arrived during the third quarter of the game to witness the Philippines’ win.

Also posted on his Twitter and Facebook accounts were several photos of him taken during and after the game.

It was the first time Marcos watched the sporting spectacle as the country’s president.PNA
