Majority of surveyed Iloilo City residents said they will not submit themselves to inoculation once coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) vaccines arrive.
Jeck Conlu, spokesperson of the city government’s COVID-19 Team, revealed that 71 percent or 6,863 of the 9,731 residents who filled out and submitted consent forms said they will not get vaccinated against the viral disease.
Only 29 percent or 2,868 expressed willingness to receive the vaccine shots.
Of the submitted consent forms, 2,454 came from Manurriao district; 2,059 from City Proper; 2,016 from Molo; 1,375 from La Paz; 1,087 from Jaro; 598 from Arevalo; and 142 from Lapuz.
Meanwhile, among the 180 punong barangays in the city, half of them were still “undecided” whether or not they want to get vaccinated.
This was according Molo Punong Barangay and Liga ng mga Barangay Vice President Roberto Niño.
“Wala sila nagahambal nga indi sila magpabakuna ha kundi nga nagapangduha-duha pa sila,” he clarified.
Conlu, in a report by radio station RMN-Iloilo, said those unwilling to get inoculated were worried about the vaccines’ safety.
To convince more people to get immunized, Mayor Jerry P. Treñas said the city government will launch an intensive information drive about the COVID-19 vaccination program.
In an interview over radio station Bombo Radyo-Iloilo, the mayor said he is willing to be the first in his city to get vaccinated to boost the confidence of his constituents.
Last month, the city government sealed a deal with AstraZeneca Pharmaceuticals Philippines Inc. for the advance purchase of COVID-19 vaccines.IMT
