A publisher of an Iloilo City-based lifestyle magazine was arrested by members of the Criminal Investigation and Detection Group (CIDG-6) over a libel charge stemming from a Facebook post.
The CIDG-6 served an arrest warrant to Joe Mari Agriam of CREAM dela Creme on Thursday, Nov. 4.
The warrant dated Oct. 28 this year was issued by Judge Victorino Oliveros Maniba, Jr. of the Iloilo City Regional Trial Court (RTC) Branch 391.
The libel complaint was filed by Presidential Consultant for Western Visayas Jane Javellana before the City Prosecutor’s Office.
Prosecutor II Ferdinand Thomas Magallane said Agriam’s Facebook post on March 19, 2020 contains statements that are “defamatory, malicious, and calculated to impeach the virtue and reputation of the complainant, thereby causing dishonor, discredit and contempt upon Javellana, to her damage and prejudice.”
Agriam posted P10,000 bail for his temporary liberty while the case is pending before the court.IMT
