Liga ng mga Barangay-Iloilo City president Irene Ong is not in favor of the proposal to postpone the barangay and Sangguniang Kabataan elections set on December 5 this year.
“OK man kon may eleksyon para mabal-an ta kon gusto pa sang tawo sa aton or indi na,” she said.
However, she noted that most of the punong barangays in the city, especially of the big barangays, backed the proposed postponement, citing their unfinished plans and programs.
“Ang ila nga mga plano ilabi na sa mga dalagku nga barangay wala pa natapos, ti kon ma-eleksyon ti mauntat,” she said.
The bill seeking to postpone the barangay and SK elections was filed by Leyte Representative Richard Gomez.
He wants the elections to be moved on December 5, 2023 to give the government a “financial breathing room” especially with the recently concluded May 2022 national elections.
“That’s why a postponement can be called. The remaining balance of the budget for the year and for barangay and SK elections can be used for agricultural programs, which are badly needed and a priority of the new President,” House Bill No. 937 read.IMT
