Showing the entire repertoire, Iloilo Kisela Knights is unstoppable in the ongoing Professional Chess Association of the Philippines (PCAP) Season 2, improving their card with 12 wins and a loss.

The Iloilo-based teams made a formidable play against Laguna after blasting the latter, 15-6. They also outlasted Isabela, 13-8 to top the Southern Division.

Against Laguna in blitz game, the team overcame a 5-2 victory, thanks to Karl Victor Ochoa (Board 2), Rogelio Antonio Jr. (Board 4), Rolly Parondo Jr. (Board 5), John Michael Silvederio (Board 6), and Fritz Porras (Board 7). They also defeated Laguna in rapid event, 11-3, with triumphs by Ochoa, Fiona Geeweneth Guirhem (Board 3), Parondo, Silvederio, and Porras and a draw by Antonio.

Playing against Isabela, Iloilo struggled in the blitz game but crawled back in the rapid event with victories by Ochoa, Guirhem, Antonio, Silvederio and Horizon Villanueva (Board 7).

Despite the unavailability of Cherry Mejia, IKK banked on Fiona Guirhem who showed solid wins over the weekend.

“A win against the defending champion will definitely increase the confidence of the team. While the more serious games are during the play offs, we can use the elimination rounds as opportunity to practice and explore unchartered lines. I am confident our team is on track for the championship show down,” shared IKK owner Leo Sotaridona.

Meanwhile, Negros Kingsmen, split their matches with a 15-6 win over Mindoro and a defeat to Manila, 12-9, in the second game. Negros has 9 wins and 4 defeats.

The Negrenses easily hammered Mindoro in blitz game, 7-0, behind wins by David Elorta (Board 1), Mari Turqueza (Board 2), Natori Diaz (Board 3), Adrian Pacis (Board 4), Ellan Asuela (Board 5), Edsel Montoya (Board 6) and Ted Montoyo (Board 7). However they struggled in the rapid event, 8-6, with triumphs from Randy Segarra (Board 2), Asuela, Montoya and Montoyo.IMT Sports
