Showing menacing forms in the ongoing Professional Chess Association of the Philippines (PCAP), Iloilo Kisela Knights are unassailable, beating two powerhouse teams in the recent matches.
The Iloilo-based professional chess team topscored the Southern Division with 25 wins and two losses.
The team survived an 11.5-9.5 over Davao in the first match with a 4.5-1.5 blitz victory behind Karl Victor Ochoa (Board 2), Rogelio Antonio Jr. (Board 4), Fritz Bryan Porras (Board 5) and Rolly Parondo Jr. (Board 6) and a draw by Horizon Villanueva (Board 7).
IKK was had a hard time in the rapid after scoring a 7-7 draw, thanks to Cesar Mariano (Board 1), Antonio and Porras and a draw by Cherry Ann Mejia (Board 3).
The Leo Sotaridona-owned squad successfully swept its game after an 18-3 domination over Camarines. They dominated the blitz game with 6-1 victory courtesy of Ochoa, Mejia, Antonio, Porras, Parondo and John Michael Silvederio (Board 7). They also sustained its momentum in the rapid event, 12-2, behind two-pointers each from Ochoa, Mejia, Antonio, Porras, Parondo and Silvederio.
Meanwhile, Negros Kingsmen dropped to 17-10 in the standings after another split. They bowed to Camarines, 16-5 before a 14.5-6.5 win against Toledo Trojans.
The Negrense defeated Toledo in blitz game, 4.5-2.5, with wins by David Elorta (Board 1), Natori Diaz (Board 3), Ellan Asuela (Board 5) and Ted Montoyo (Board 7) and a draw by Mari Turqueza (Board 2). They also outplayed Toledo in rapid game, 10-4, on two-pointer each from Elorta, Turqueza, Diaz, Asuela and Montoyo.
Both Western Visayas-based teams will return action on Saturday and try to improve their rankings as it nearing the playoff season.IMT Sports
