Ilonggo football star Jovin Bedic has ruined the hope of Dynamic Herb Cebu to see action in the finals after he converted the much-needed goal for Kaya Futbol Iloilo, carrying his team to the finals of the Copa Paulino Alcantara Cup at the PFF National Training Center in Carmona, Cavite, Tuesday, Nov. 16
The crowd expected a scoreless semis clash, but the native of Barotac Nuevo, Iloilo scored from the spot in the 84th minute to push Kaya FC-Iloilo to a hard-fought 1-0 victory.
Both teams have a sluggish opening game, with players securing the ball after physical game went down the wire. However, Cebu’s stout defense stood up against the Ilonggos pressure until the final minutes.
Cebu’s Baris Tasci was called for a handball inside the box, giving Kaya FC an opportunity to finally get on board. Skipper Bedic was cool under pressure as he converted the penalty past former teammate Ace Villanueva.
The Cebuanos got the chance to equalize the scoreboard but they were limited by the solid defenders. With the victory, Kaya will now have a chance to regain the Copa crown that they won in 2018.
Meanwhile, Kaya will be tested by the Azkals Development Team (ADT) after the latter made it through the final by beating Stallion Laguna F.C., 2-1,
Yrick Gallantes provided the sparks for the team after striking the winning goal for the ADT during the extra time. Gallantes produced the goal through a header off Oliver Bias’ cross at the 116th minute.
The Stallions actually scored the first goal with Abraham Placito’s header in the 53rd minute. ADT captain Jarvey Gayoso was able to tie the count by striking a goal in the 67th.
The development team, however, lost its captain when Gayoso went down with a hamstring injury.
Fortunately, Gallantes and Bias were able to orchestrate the play that led to the team’s victory.
Both teams will face each other in the finals with Kaya FC trying to regain the title and Azkals wanting to spoil the comeback of the Ilonggos.IMT Sports
