Heavy rains brought by Typhoon Jolina have inundated several areas in Western Visayas.
Based on the initial data released by the Regional Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Council (RDRRMC-6), 96 families consisting of 314 persons in Negros Occidental were displaced due to flooding. They were from the towns of La Castellana, Pontevedra, and Isabela.
The Provincial Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Office (PDRRMO) of Negros Occidental also recorded 17 partially damaged houses and two totally wrecked houses.
A flood-control structure in La Castillana was partially damaged.
In Antique, flooding was reported in Hatay-Hatay, Bugasong town and Rosario, Tibiao town.
A light boat capsized in Malandog, Hamtic town due to the strong current of water.
In Capiz, several roads in Roxas City and President Roxas town were flooded.
A storm surge destroyed some houses in the coastal barangay of Punta Cogon, Roxas City.
The Iloilo PDRRMO has yet to submit its situational report to the RDRRMC-6.
However, on Tuesday, Sept. 7, flash floods were reported in Miagao town, which damaged hectares of rice fields and killed farm animals such as carabaos, cows and goats.
Meanwhile, vessel trips in four ports in the region were suspended due to the bad weather. This left 136 passengers, 92 rolling cargoes and four vessels stranded.IMT
