A transport group based in Iloilo City is seeking a fare increase as drivers grapple with higher fuel costs and the effects of the COVID-19 pandemic.
Raymundo “Boyet” Parcon, president of the Iloilo City Loop Alliance of Jeepney Operators and Drivers Association (ICLAJODA), said they will request the Land Transportation Franchising and Regulatory Board (LTFRB) for a P1 to P3 fare hike.
The group will also demand for a P1.50 increase for every succeeding kilometer after the first four kilometers.
According to Parcon, fuel prices have gone up sharply during the past few weeks.
Currently, the minimum fare for public utility jeepneys (PUJs) is P9.
Parcon said he is confident that other transport groups will support the proposal to raise the minimum jeepney fare.
Transportation is among the hardest-hit sectors by the pandemic.IMT
