Mayor Bienvenido Margarico of Janiuay town in Iloilo province has tested positive for the coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19).
“Sa mga pinalangga ko nga mga kasimanwa, Bilang inyo Mayor, ginakasubo ko gid nga ipahibalo sa inyo nga subong nga adlaw, petsa August 9, 2021, nagpositive ako sa RT-PCR test result sa COVID-19,” Margarico said in a statement.
Contact tracing was immediately initiated to contain the spread of the infection.
The Mayor’s Office was closed on Tuesday, Aug. 10, “until further notice” for disinfection.
“Akon gid ginapangabay ang tanan nga indi magkabalaka ukon magpa kulba kag sa baylo mag pangamuyo kag padayon nga sundon ang tanan nga health protocols,” said Margarico.
On the other hand, Lambunao Mayor Reynor Gonzales confirmed that the head of their Municipal Social Welfare and Development Office (MSWDO) has contracted COVID-19.
All MSWDO personnel and those involved in the financial aid distribution were swabbed and quarantined. Their COVID-19 test results have yet to come out.
This, according to Gonzales, caused delays in the distribution of financial assistance to beneficiaries in the town.
As of Aug. 9, Lambunao logged 90 active cases of COVID-19 while Janiuay recorded 53 active cases.
The entire province is under modified enhanced community quarantine (MECQ), the second most restrictive quarantine classification in the country.IMT
