Classes from pre-school to senior high school in Iloilo City are suspended on Monday next week, Jan. 27.
Mayor Jerry P. Treñas issued an executive order (EO) on Tuesday, Jan. 21, declaring the suspension of classes in both public and private schools.
The suspension aims to give pupils and students from various schools in the city who will participate in the Dinagyang Festival’s major activities “some time to rest and regain their lost energy and strength.”
The celebration of Dinagyang 2020 will culminate on Sunday, Jan. 26.
Treñas said the suspension of classes “is aligned with the legal mandate to ensure the welfare of the people especially the young ones.”
“Such act is within the powers of Local Chief Executive as defined in the City Charter and restated in the Local Government Code of 1991,” he further said.
According to the mayor, “the early release of the corresponding order on the matter is crucially necessary for the full guidance of all concerned.”
Meanwhile, the suspension of tertiary level classes “will be at the discretion of the school management,” said Trenas.IMT
