The province of Iloilo logged lesser crime incidents in the first half of 2021 compared to the same period a year ago.

The Iloilo Police Provincial Office’s (IPPO) Investigation and Detective Management Unit recorded 2,130 crimes from January to June this year.

The figure was lower by 10.16 percent than last year’s 2,371 crimes.

The number of focus crimes also went down by 11 percent from 412 cases in 2020 to 365 cases this year.

Focus crimes are murder, homicide, physical injury, rape, robbery, theft and motor-napping.

Colonel Gilbert Gorero, IPPO director, cited the implementation of quarantine measures, prohibition of sale and consumption of alcoholic drinks, and intensified police visibility and patrolling as primary factors in the decrease of crime incidents in the province.

“This is probably one positive side of the pandemic – lesser crime incidents because people’s convergence is limited,”he said.IMT
