Police Colonel Gilbert Gorero, Iloilo Police Provincial Office (IPPO) director, explained why the names of respondents in the criminal complaints filed before the Iloilo Prosecutor’s Office were not disclosed.
The IPPO filed the complaints on Wednesday afternoon, Jan. 5, against eight persons allegedly involved in the death of Ilongga businesswoman Claire Diergos.
In a report by radio station RMN-Iloilo, Gorero said: “We cannot divulge the names because they are still considered innocent.”
The police director cited Article 3, Section 14 of the Constitution stating that “in all criminal prosecutions, the accused is presumed innocent until proven guilty beyond reasonable doubt.”
Diergos, 36, was found lifeless inside her car in Barangay Inangayan, Santa Barbara, Iloilo on October 26 last year.
She suffered multible stab wounds on different parts of her body.IMT
